Film: The first thing worth mentioning about The Hunger Games is the silence. Few characters say much, and those that do don't repeat themselves. Their thoughts, feelings, and schemes are rarely spelled out, but rather, punctuated by quiet. As someone who read Suzanne Collins's trilogy of young adult novels that inspired the movie, that quiet is fulfilling — and frankly, more than I had prepared to see in a big-budget adaptation with massive box-office ambition. Film: Film doesn't get much grimmer than We Need To Talk About Kevin. It's an utterly bleak, astonishing piece of work that demands your attention just as you hope to look away. It's horrific in the most troubling sense of the world, mining our most primal instincts to ask about the most absolute of our fears: What do you do with a child you don't want? A family? A life? Tumbling through those questions is Eva Khatchadourian (Tilda Swinton), a one-time travel writer turned ambivalent mother who's left to bear what's wrought by her teenage son, Kevin (Ezra Miller). From the moments after his birth, he's distant and cold toward her; years later, those feelings manifest into a unnerving posture, an unspoken rage that threatens to devour Eva, her husband (John C.
